An overview of the Transition to Work program

Transition to Work is an employment service that has been primarily designed to help young people between the ages of 15 to 24. The goal is to provide support and the tools necessary to discover and move into meaningful employment. It can be hard to know what you want to do with the rest of your life when you first finish school, the Transition to Work program is looking at helping students move into a successful career path.

With intensive pre-employment support and training, the Worklinks team aim to improve work-readiness for our youth, early school leavers, and young adults. Be it further education or employment (inclusive of apprenticeships and traineeships) the Transition to Work program looks to identify the next steps.

Examples of elements the Transition to Work program offers

  • Development of practical, job-friendly skills
  • Connecting with education and training providers
  • Finding work experience placements
  • Locating job opportunities within local communities
  • Connecting with community services relevant to the individual’s needs

Helping disengaged eligible youth

In these cases, this program may reduce the wait time from 13 weeks to 4 weeks.

Set and achieve employment and education goals by improving skills, confidence and readiness. The first steps into employment are more manageable when armed with practical skills, further education, training, and work experience placements.

Our skilled staff providers have experience working with disengaged and disadvantaged youth and use their strong links with employers, community services and schools to create opportunities to benefit their future growth.

Transition to Work offers benefits for employers as well as ensuring young people meet their needs and are supported to settle into their role. Services for employers include:

  • Pre-employment skills for new employees that are directly relevant to the needs of your business
  • Work experience placements for eligible youth to assess suitability for the role
  • Negotiating the Youth Bonus wage of up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) for employers who offer ongoing employment
  • Post-placement support to ensure a new candidate settles into a job with the employer’s expectations are being met
